#LegendLife: Music Legend Quincy Jones Opens Up About His Life & Career At Screening

If the name Quincy Jones doesn't ring a bell, his music sure does. He has written and composed for some of the biggest names in music such as: Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and many many more. He is responsible for greenlighting The Fresh Prince of Bell Air and he gave Oprah her big shot as Sophia in her debut role in The Color Purple. This isn't even the tip of the iceberg in Quincy's career. Recently, The New York chapter of The British Academy of Film and Television held a screening of Quincy's new Netflix documentary , self titled Quincy which gave an in depth look into his life and career. After the screening, Quincy spoke about the documentary and about certain points in his life and career. One of the biggest lessons he stated that he has learned is to appreciate your family and friends. He was so career driven that it wasn't until he had an aneurysm and was on bed rest that the reality set in that his children didn't really know him. They knew he was their father, but because he was touring so much and away from home so often that they didn't really know him as their dad. As the holiday season approaches, we tend to think more about friends and loved ones, but what about the other times of the year. Oftentimes we get so caught up in our own worlds that we forget the other parts of life that is equally important. In the entertainment profession you're always striving to build your craft, be readily available for and/or hop on the next career changing opportunity all while hustling to survive day to day. It's a very consuming lifestyle. Every so often you should take the time to make the time to appreciate the people in your life that you consider dear to you. As stated by the music legend himself, "That's what life is about, your family and your friends." Watch the documentary Quincy on Netflix, now.
