Lee Strasberg & The Method Technique

Lee Strasberg is most notorious for the "method" style of acting which is a form of acting in which the actor "becomes the character". Strasberg encourages actors to intensify their connection to the material by creating their characters' emotional experiences in their own lives. Many actors such as James Dean, Ellen Burstyn, Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Marilyn Monroe, Julie Harris, Paul Newman, and Dustin Hoffman, all students of Strasberg, swear by this method. Although his technique has developed some great performances, one should be very cautious with this method as one can lose their sense of reality and get lost in the character. Strasberg founded his acting school The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in 1970 with locations in Los Angeles and New York, Strasberg's legacy and groundbreaking technique lives on as it continues to develop talent with remarkable performances.
