For Your Consideration | 2021 Award Season
The Coronavirus sent shock waves all over the world, devastating the lives of millions. Face masks and social distance signs have definatively established a new normal. Typically this time of year, Hollywood would be gearing up for its most important events: The Golden Globes, The SAG Awards and The Academy Awards. Unfortunately, The Coronavirus has effected these ceremonies. Broadway 's biggest night, The Tony Awards has been postponed due to Broadway's closure. All other award ceremonies have been scheduled one to two months later than their usual commencement.
The Golden Globes, which is typically held in early January has been slated for February 28th. The Screen Actor's Guild Awards (SAG Awards) which is also traditionally held in January, is scheduled for April 4th.
The Academy Awards which was initially scheduled for February 28th, has been rescheduled for April 25th to allot for late theatrical releases. Details about the award ceremonies are as uncertain as our modern times, however limited attendees and digital formatting is a given.
Glamous overtones are also to be expected, but seeing your favorite celebrities through your TV screen addressing other celebrities through monitors and other TV screens and talking to a desolent crowd somehow isn't as magical. With Covid19 vaccines underway, one can only hope that our new normal will go back to the old normal, and the new award season can go back to the old award season. What are your thoughts? Will you be watching?
